Windows Server 2016 is expected to release in just about two months. Most XenApp/XenDesktop administrators that I know typically look at the news of such upcoming releases and figure that means that they will start looking into whether their Citrix environment can migrate to the new server operating system in about a year or so.
You might be surprised to know that Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop 7.9 already works on Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Technical Preview 5 (TP5) right now. That’s right, you can actually set up a test environment today, using TP5 and the current XenApp/XenDesktop media. You can actually get a jump start on finding out whether your applications, print drivers, etc., will work with the new operating system AND be checking these features and functions within a Citrix session. Citrix has fully committed to having XenApp/XenDesktop ready to go with Windows Server 2016 on its day of release.
